Know Your Fellow

This week we are pleased to introduce you to Christine M. Kleinert fellow, Dr. Joe Messana. Joe originally hails from Buffalo, New York and enjoys pediatric hand care.

It was a “combination of science, patient care, and working in the OR” that drew Joe Messana to the field of medicine. Now that he’s a practicing physician, he says his favorite part of his job is getting to work with “patients who are thankful for what we do.”

Dr. Messana received his undergraduate degree from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and earned his medical degree from Standford University in California. He doesn’t yet know where he wants to practice once his fellowship is concluded.

The history of the Christine M. Kleinert Fellowship Program and the diversity of the training brought Joe Messana to Louisville. One of the things he loves about being in this part of the world is our world-famous Kentucky bourbon.

Joe is currently reading Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End, by Atul Gawande.

Our hand specialists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call (502) 561-4263 for hand emergencies or to schedule an appointment.
