Fireworks Safety MonthJune is Fireworks Safety Month

As the 4th of July holiday approaches, we would like to urge parents and children to use caution when celebrating with fireworks or sparklers to avoid potentially serious hand and arm injuries.

Although fireworks are a fun tradition for many families during the summer, fireworks accidents can quickly lead to devastation as many result in severe burns, deformity and even amputations.

Please follow the safety tips below to help avoid hand and arm injuries. Our best tip- visit a public fireworks display rather than shooting off fireworks at your home. Public displays are typically monitored for safety by local fire departments.

  • Always buy fireworks from a reliable source
  • Always have an adult present, NEVER allow children to play with a or ignite fireworks
  • Read and follow all warnings and instructions
  • Light one firework at a time, never try to re-light a “dud” firework
  • Light fireworks outdoors and on a smooth, flat surface away from the house, dry leaves or flammable materials
  • Keep a bucket of water close in case of a malfunction or fire
  • Never experiment or make your own firework
