Meet Your Therapist: Sitting Down with Holly Habeeb

Louisville native Holly Habeeb has been following her passion and helping patients since she was in high school. In this post, we are happy to introduce you to Physical Therapist and Certified Hand Therapist, Holly Habeeb.

Holly got her start in physical therapy via an unusual route—her high school English teacher. “When I was a senior in high school, my English teacher asked me to volunteer at The KIDS Center for Pediatric Therapies summer camp. I did and I loved it. I loved working with the children and watching the therapists help improve the children’s mobility and dexterity.”

Having suffered her own hand injury at the age of 12, Holly is especially interested in hand rehabilitation. “When I was 12 years old, I sustained an injury to my small finger flexor tendons. Before then, I never knew hands were so complex and essential.” She was able to feed her interest when, as a student, she worked as a tech at University Hospital in the therapy department.

Education is important to Holly. She names Beth Coon, PT, CHT, as her mentor and thanks her for taking her on for a Hand Therapy internship during her last rotation. Holly is an alumnus of both Centre College and the University of Kentucky and has worked at Kleinert Kutz for 14 years. Still, she continues to learn. “I love that every upper extremity patient here is unique, and the complicated injuries that we see at KKA push me to increase my knowledge base on a daily level.”

But that’s not her primary motivator. The patients fuel her passion. She recounts how good it felt to help a man who worked diligently to regain almost complete use of his hand after losing two of his fingers and sustaining additional injuries in a military explosion. Holly says, “My favorite part of being a physical therapist is helping patients regain the function necessary to return to the activities of everyday life.”

Her everyday life activities include enjoying time with her family and friends in the Kentuckiana community and reading with her daughter. (They’re currently working on Harry Potter.)

Her favorite quote is from Socrates, “Know thyself.” It’s a good one. Holly, we’re happy to know you. Thank you for sharing your story with us.
