Meet Elizabeth Guernsey

Honoring Family

Elizabeth Guernsey has been a Nurse Practitioner with Kleinert Kutz for 11 years. It only takes a few minutes of chatting with her to learn that family is important to this Otisco, Indiana native.

Elizabeth Guernsey stayed close to home for her education. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University Southeast and her graduate degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She then practiced as an RN for ten years before becoming an Advanced Practice Nurse. What does she like most about this part of the world? “I appreciate living in an area where value is placed upon family.”

Elizabeth made her way to Kleinert Kutz via Jewish Hospital, where she spent her last four years in the Pre-Op/Recovery area taking care of hand patients. It was the promise of practicing in our specialty that drew her to us. “I just love caring for hands! My favorite part is talking to patients and providing answers and care for their hand issues.”

Elizabeth enjoys reading and recently finished a book depicting complicated family ties. It’s called Before We Were Yours and is by Lisa Wingate. “It’s a fictional book based on the historical facts of Georgia Tann and the Tennessee Children’s Home Society Orphanage” in which poor children (over 5000 of them in real life) were kidnapped from their parents and sold to wealthy families.

Family plays a role in one of Elizabeth’s favorite patient stories too. Elizabeth has fond memories of caring for a beautiful young girl with red hair and a happy smile. She impressed Elizabeth not only by her attitude – “she was always so cheerful and happy!” – but also by being a competitor in the Special Olympics. “I also love that her father was always by her side!”

For words to live by, Elizabeth shares her favorite quote: “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” We don’t know where she first heard this, but maybe it was from her grandmother and role model, Hazel Guthrie. You can meet Elizabeth, and the rest of our team, at the Kleinert Kutz offices.
