Q and A with Dr. TsaiThis is our second blog in our Meet the Doctor’s series. Today, we are getting to know Dr. Tsai a bit better.

Dr. Tsai spends his work weeks between our Downtown, East Louisville, and New Albany, IN offices and is a 1961 National Taiwan University, Republic of China graduate. His postgraduate training was completed at both National Taiwan University Hospital and the University of Louisville Hospital.

Q: What is your full name?

A: Tsu-Min Tsai

Q: Where are you from?

A: Taiwan

Q: What made you want to be a doctor?

A: My father encouraged me to be a doctor for a stable lifestyle.

Q: What drew you to Kleinert Kutz?

A: Dr. Harold Kleinert and Dr. Joseph Kutz visited and invited me to come to Louisville.

Q: What is your favorite part of your profession?

A: Surgery and coming to our morning conferences every time I can.

Q: What do you love about Louisville?

A: I love Louisville because it has four seasons.

Q: What is your favorite quote?

A: I like to paraphrase Confucius. His sayings remind me to have: 1. Loyalty to job and boss. 2. Trust of friends and to friends. 3. Work hard and do the best you can.

Q: Who do you consider your mentor?

A: I have three: Harold Kleinert, MD, my Father-in-Law Dr. Chiu, and Dr. Susumu Tamai

Q: What book are you currently reading?

A: I am currently reading medical journals.

Q: What is your specialty (General, Ortho, Plastics)?

A: Ortho

Q: What is your level of appointment at the University of Louisville?

A: Clinical Professor

Q: Within hand and arm care, what do you consider your specialty?

A: Nerve repair, tendon, and previously microsurgery replantation.

Q: Favorite Patient Story:

A: I have two. The first was our first-hand transplant patient because the results were so good. And another patient who had his hand replanted and the result was so good that nobody believed it had been amputated and replanted.  He had come back to the office to ask for pictures to prove it.
