Dislocations

Dislocations are described with reference to the distal bone involved. Most pediatric dislocations can be treated by closed reduction and splints that immobilize the injured joint as well as the ones proximal and distal to it. Occasionally, soft tissues may get caught between dislocated joint surfaces necessitating surgical exploration to remove the offending structure.
