History
Harold E. Kleinert, MD, started a hand surgery clinic in Louisville, Kentucky in 1953. Joined by Joseph E. Kutz, MD, in 1964, they formed the organization now know as Kleinert Kutz Hand Care Center.
The Kleinert Kutz Hand Care Center is one of the largest hand care referral centers in the world. Pioneering achievements in hand microsurgery, research, therapy and orthotics have been ongoing for over 50 years. Our physicians provide comprehensive upper extremity care ranging from major trauma and minor injuries to complex diseases and common disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis.
A number of world’s firsts, such as the first reported repair of digital arteries and first bilateral arm and forearm replantation have been performed at this center. Our surgeons performed the nation’s first hand transplant and the world’s first successful hand transplant.
